 . Harry .

  • Great Pyrenees
  • Spayed/Neutered
Dogs often come into rescue because their lives have turned upside down. This is certainly the case for one-year old Harry, and it's all for the best! Harry's previous life was spent at a breeding facility that was shut down due to the quality of the care given to the dogs. Now he's enjoying county living, getting some positive attention and enough food. We wonder if Harry ever had a loving hand placed on him before now. Harry is a typical young male Pyr - a bit awkward, not quite grounded, and still growing. The word "galoot" comes to mind! He is very affectionate when he gets to know you and is good with other dogs. This boy has potential! If you would like more information about Harry, or would like to schedule a time to meet him, please contact us at 920-293-8885 or wooflodge@yahoo.com. A fenced yard is usually required to adopt a dog from GPRW. All of our dogs are current on vaccinations and are spayed or neutered.

This little cuteness is 3-month old Briggs - a healthy, beautiful male Great Pyrenees puppy. He was very loved by his previous owner, who bought him from a pet store. As many have discovered, the needs of a puppy - especially a big one - can be alot to handle. Briggs came to us because his owner just wants what's best for him. We will have more details about this irresistible little guy once we get to know him better. If you would like more information about Briggs, or would like to schedule a time to meet him, please contact us at 920-293-8885 or wooflodge@yahoo.com. A fenced yard is usually required to adopt a dog from GPRW. All of our dogs are current on vaccinations and are spayed or neutered.

Chance came into rescue after a midwest commercial breeding facility was shut down. The USDA refused to renew their license due to the deplorable condition of the kennel and its inhabitants. 18 Great Pyrenees were stranded with no safety net whatsoever. GPRW volunteered to take 2 of these dogs, and we hope to obtain more as space allows. We named this one Chance, because he desperately needs another one. He has, per his initial trip to the vet, a neurological disorder of unknown cause that may, or may not, be treatable. Please see the attached video. Chance continually spins in circles. When subdued he continues to move his head in a repetitive motion. Chance tries to come by us. He cannot. We are taking Chance to a specialist at the University of Wisconsin Madison Veterinary School. We will have more information after this appointment, but right now we need your help. Please consider making a donation (https://greatpyrrescuewi.com) to help give Chance a Chance.

Lilly is the 7 year old daughter of Mara, Both dogs are adapting quite well to their new surroundings, including the shelter in our new outdoor area. This was an immediate hit, even before the doors were installed! Both girls have been enjoying all the attention that has been coming their way and happily greet everyone who comes to the rescue. Mara and Lilly walk well on leashes and ride well in the car. They are quiet, gentle souls who are devoted to each other and should stay together. They are accustomed to country life. It suits them. If you would like more information about Mara and Lilly, or would like to schedule a time to meet them, please contact us at 920-293-8885 or wooflodge@yahoo.com. A fenced yard is required to adopt these two, as they have wandered in the past. All of our dogs are current on vaccinations and are spayed or neutered.

Mara and Lilly are a friendly mother-daughter duo who joined us because their family did not have enough time to spend with them. Mara, the mother, is solid white and is 9 years old. Her daughter, Lilly, is 7 and appears to have more than Great Pyrenees in her past. These girls have lived on a farm their entire lives and tended cows when they were younger. They appear to be healthy, although Mara has some mild stiffness in her hips. They like children and tolerate the other dogs, too. Mara and Lilly are bonded and know no other life than one with each other. It is our hope to place them together. Yes, we know! A pair .One elderly. Together. If you would like more information about Mara and Lilly, or would like to schedule a time to meet them, please contact us at 920-293-8885 or wooflodge@yahoo.com. Five-year old Jess has recently joined us. Jess was dearly loved by her family, including a child. Unfortunately, the child was terribly allergic to her, and they just had to find Jess a new home. We will have more information about Jess once we get to know her a little better. If you would like more information about Jess, or would like to schedule a time to meet her, please contact us at 920-293-8885 or wooflodge@yahoo.com. This handsome new arrival is 18 months old and was born on Christmas Eve, 2016. He is a healthy, energetic young male. King has gotten along well with everyone he has met at the rescue so far, including children and other dogs. He is both house-trained and crate-trained. King was surrendered because he occasionally got hold of a baby toy or something he should not have and growled instead of giving it up. Part of this may well be his age - he's entered the teenage years in a dog’s life – but he should probably be placed in a home without small children and an owner willing to work with him to overcome this behavior. If you would like more information about King, or would like to schedule a time to meet him, please contact us at 920-293-8885 or wooflodge@yahoo.com. A fenced yard is usually required to adopt a dog from GPRW. All of our dogs are current on vaccinations and are spayed or neutered.

Sola is almost a year old and, in many ways, she is still very puppy-like in her behavior. She is a healthy girl who is very excited to be out in this great new world of hers. Until recently, Sola's world view was very limited. She spent much of her life living in a basement. Now, before you leap to conclusions, it was related to a temporary change in her owner's living situation that became permanent. Sola carries no lasting sadness from this experience. But is she ever making up for lost time! Sola loves and shows great enthusiasm for everything she does, whether it's tearing around the play area or going for a walk.. She has spent time with children and likes other dogs. She loves all friends, and everyone seems to be a new friend! Her enthusiasm when encountering new things is just adorable! Check out her pictures. See the Sola smile? If you would like more information about Sola, or would like to schedule a time to meet her, please contact us at 920-293-8885 or wooflodge@yahoo.com. Meet 11 month old Fitz Bowser! New to rescue, this young guy was tearfully surrendered by his owner because Fitz Bowser and the owner's other dog didn't get along well. He appears healthy and is likely to be a big boy once full grown. We'll have more to say about this boy as we get to know him. We do know that he has been loved! New arrivals! Tuck and Koda just turned four years old and recently came into rescue. They have been well cared for and appear to be healthy. Both dogs have been very friendly with the other dogs here. Koda is a little cautious about meeting new people and takes a couple of minutes to warm up after being introduced. Tuck is quite outgoing and is a bit of a goof! Obviously he is Pyr mix, but mixed with what? He has some gold in his coat. Bernese Mountain Dog? Newfie? Golden Retriever? If able to talk human, Tuck and Koda might well say that they would like to be placed together. It's pretty obvious that this is the case, even without the benefit of speech. They eat out of the same bowl. When walking, one will stop to see what's going on with the other. They wrestle and play beautifully together! Their concern for each other is truly touching. At the vet's office each one had to nuzzle the vet's hand to see what was going on before he could touch the other. These boys were predominantly outside boys, surrendered because they wandered - typical Pyr behavior! Since their arrival they have not once soiled the kennel, which certainly will make official house training easier. We are so impressed with these two. They are playful and will wrestle, but for the most part are laid back. Other dogs (if introduced correctly) and cats don't seem to faze these two. Please note; These dogs have no history as Livestock Guardian Dogs and will NOT be placed as such. If you would like more information about Koda and Tuck, or would like to schedule a time to meet them, please contact us at 920-293-8885 or wooflodge@yahoo.com. Piper is 16 months old and is coming to us through no fault of her own. She is a loving, healthy girl who lived with other dogs until her family's circumstances changed. Suddenly there was little time to spend with the pups. Piper knows basic commands and walks well on a leash. She is house-trained and would be most happy in a home with other dogs. Piper is a real snuggler, once she gets to know you! This is 5 year old Rocky, who recently joined us at the rescue. Rocky is a healthy boy, who is house-trained and loves all people, including children. He is a smaller Pyr, and can be a real cuddle bug! Rocky lived with the same loving family all his life. It was a good life. Then they moved and he lost his fenced yard. His owners also had new jobs and the hours they worked left Rocky alone for long periods of time. The adjustment to this new life was hard for him and Rocky started to develop separation anxiety, waiting for his loved ones to return. We want to find this great dog a new family that will not have to leave him alone for long periods of time and has a securely fenced yard - like before! Having another dog around would help with his mild separation issues. Rocky likes people and attention. He enjoys being petted and is okay with grooming activities. Everyone is greeted in a friendly manner. Rocky plays with other dogs and is okay with cats. Long walks are a specialty! If you would like more information about Rocky, or would like to schedule a time to meet him, please contact us at 920-293-8885 or wooflodge@yahoo.com. Gabi and Oliver recently joined us after the death of their owner. Both are 4 years old and comparatively small for the breed. Gabi, with the red leash, is quite the social girl- very friendly, loving and fun. She is AMAZED at everything she experiences! She just got a wicked haircut. Oliver is heartbreakingly shy and watches Gabi for guidance on what to do in this new place. While Oliver and Gabi are close, they don’t appear to be especially bonded. We’ll know more, though, when we get to know them better. If you would like more information about Gabi and/or Oliver, or would like to schedule a time to meet them, please contact us at 920-293-8885 or wooflodge@yahoo.com. One-year old Josie was recently surrendered by her owner. Josie is a Pyr mix, looking a whole lot more like a Golden Retriever than a Pyr! Josie is healthy, house trained, and has been doing well on a leash. She hasn’t had much experience with the world at large, and isn’t sure what new people are all about. We’re working on introductions because strangers and fast movements are stressful to her. We are also teaching Josie how to play more gently with others, as she gets pretty rough at times. She just doesn’t know what to do with herself! Josie likes children, but shouldn’t be in a home with little ones. She will require a securely fenced yard. If you would like more information about Josie, or would like to schedule a time to meet her, please contact us at 920-293-8885 or wooflodge@yahoo.com. 18-month old Cooper came from a loving home. He had caring owners, whose living situation changed significantly after they got him. Out of love, they gave Cooper up so that he could find a home with people who had more time to share with him. Cooper is a healthy boy with an endless source of energy – the quintessential adolescent male dog! He is house trained and does well with other dogs. Cats are still a question mark, as they are generally not fond of overly enthusiastic canines. Too bouncy! Cooper knows hand signals as well as voice commands such as "sit" and "stay," but they don't always stay in his head due to his short attention span. Cooper needs a patient, experienced owner who will consistently train through repetition. Due to his enthusiastic greetings, Cooper would do best without small children. He also feels that it is necessary to guard his food against other dogs, so he may do best as an only dog although he can be with others outside of his home. Cooper just needs a special person to be HIS special person. If you would like more information about Cooper, or would like to schedule a time to meet him, please contact us at 920-293-8885 or wooflodge@yahoo.com. Our beloved Bumble needs a forever home. This sweet, special boy has Down syndrome and will need an equally special family willing to understand his take on the world. Bumble was with the most wonderful foster home that a rescue could ask for. Unfortunately, he developed an intolerance for another male Pyr in the house and now the family is unable to adopt him. Bumble is one of the most charming dogs we have ever met, but his three years have been challenging. His new home will need to have someone with a consistent schedule who is present much of the time. Crates have been problematic for Bumble due to earlier experiences in his life and he shouldn’t be with another large-breed male dog. Bumble loves little dogs, but cats are definitely out! Please contact us at 920-293-8885 or wooflodge@yahoo.com for more information about this scruffy lovebug. A fenced yard is required to adopt a dog. All GPRW dogs are current on vaccinations and are spayed or neutered..
