Our Mission

Great Pyrenees Rescue of Wisconsin, Inc. is a non-profit rescue group devoted to Great Pyrenees dogs in need of permanent homes.

Founded in 2007

Since our founding, we have found new homes for over well over 100 dogs needing our help.

Any dog we place is evaluated for temperament and is up-to-date with veterinary checks and vaccinations. All dogs are spayed or neutered.

More About us

GPRW is based in Neshkoro, Wisconsin, where we care for the dogs until adopters are found. Neshkoro is located off U.S. 51 near Portage ~ 80 miles from Madison, 115 miles from Milwaukee, and 40 miles from Oshkosh.

We are especially proud of our placement history of dogs with special needs. Taking in a dog with significant health issues is always a leap of faith…where will we get the money to treat this dog? Will anyone want to adopt a dog with such issues? And yet we feel that these dogs are no less deserving and are perfect in their own way.

GPRW works to educate people about the Great Pyrenees breed and participates in many public events to increase awareness of our organization and its mission.
Individual GPRW board members belong to many organizations devoted to dog welfare and rescue – the Great Pyrenees Club of America, Wisconsin Dog Rescue, the Alliance of Wisconsin Animal Rehoming Efforts and others. We also maintain affiliations with area shelters and other Pyr organizations.
Most of our success can be attributed to members of the Gonsalves family ~ Carole, John, Hanna and Jacob. Carole and John are two of our founding members and own the GPRW Kennel, “Wooflodge.” Many businesses have contributed to GPRW’s success by providing dog supplies, space for a GPRW promotional table, and items for door and raffle prizes.
